Man not one post in 2009, well finally some news Guild Wars 2 trailer is out on their main site.  Looks pretty cool and no subscription means I will definitely try it out.  Anyone hear anything on this or know of any beta??

While I was browsing for info about Aion (eagerly awaiting it) I did see the GW2 trailer.

Unfortunately, other than that... I haven't heard much news about it. No utterance of anything related to beta  scratch

The trailer was cool, but a lot of it was concept art mixed in with pre-rendered models, and still no footage of actual gameplay aside from a couple Asura walking around.  There's a FAQ, but its just filled with old information and vague references.  And of course, still no mention of the beta that was supposed to have happened 9 months ago.  I'd like a little more substance before I start getting excited about Guild Wars again.  And I'm still concerned that some of the big new features they're talking about -- namely a persistant, non-instanced landscape and the ability to solo, doing away with the requirement to have a party in most every zone -- will turn Guild Wars into "Just Another Fantasy MMO #127".

Arena.Net better start hustling.  With Star Wars: The Old Republic on the horizon, and Lord of the Rings Online continuing to hold my interest (I have a lifetime membership, so its a free-to-play game for me now), GW2 is going to be facing some stiff competition for my attention unless they pull out something really revolutionary.

I really like the storyline, though.  Smile

Compared to what I would pay for other games, and since GW1 was a great value > money and the time I spent there. I will be trying it anyway. The charrs running and jumping, the underwater landscapes, the already rendered areas just look plain beautiful. If they are using a model similar to CoH(which Im currently playing) which has a lot of what made GW unique, the gameplay will be both casual and hardcore enough to get every one of use excited again. We shall wait and see, I preffer to wait more than to just jump into an unfinished game that might end up being cancelled like alot of MMOs out there that had potential but just didnt put enough time on it.

SW... Bioware is nice, they are the best on what they do... But, they will have to overcome a lot of the barriers of current MMOs to get my attention. And, argh, fully voiced? Im not sure I want that, I like cutscenes, but to listen to EVERYTHING will get me annoyed fast enough. It seems like a solo-game made into an MMO, its still yet to be seen if it will prove succesful or not.

On ign.com there's an article about the GW2 display at Penny Arcade Expo 2009 (PAX09).  Basically just restates info we've already known.  Arena.net did however say that they would be releasing info on some of the classes early next year.  Looks like we still have quite a while before any kind of open beta is ready.  pale

I haven't actually watched any of these - so I don't know if they contain any new information.

I'm following both GuildWars2 and ArenaNet on Twitter, and the posted a list of videos from PAX: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=271B5937F3B8CB27

Finally, some decent in-game footage!  But still nothing specific on how the actual game systems will work.  Its been in development for several years now and we still have very little solid information, and still no word of the beta.  I already know Arena.Net has some very talented concept artists and can put out a great looking game.  What I'm really interested in is how this game is going to be different from the original Guild Wars, since its moving to an open, persistent world.  And since they're taking this approach, what will set this game apart from World of Warcraft, The Lord of the Rings Online, Aion, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Everquest 2 and every other cookie-cutter persistent-world fantasy MMO out there?

I want to be excited.  They just need to give me something to be excited about.   Smile

I'm guessing either this is taking a lot longer than Arena.Net anticipated, or someone from Marketing started blabbing about it way too early.
